Home Project Description Consortium Universidad de Cantabria (UC, Spain)

The University of Cantabria (UC) is the public University of the Autonomous Region of Cantabria, Spain. Created in 1972, today has over 12,000 students and over 1,250 research and teaching staff. The contribution of the University to the COMPLEX project will be carried out by the Microelectronics Engineering Group. Since 1982, the Group has participated in many national and international research projects in the field of specification and design of electronic systems. From the beginning of its activity, one of the main research areas of the group has been heterogeneous specification, modelling and simulation of complex, HW/SW embedded systems in HDLs (i.e. DDL, AHPL, KARL and Verilog and VHDL) and system-level languages (i.e. ISPS and SystemC). More recently, the group has extended its interest to system specification formalisms like AADL and UML (i.e. SysML and MARTE). This activity has lead to the development of HetSC, a formal-based, system specification methodology for heterogeneous systems in SystemC and to the development of SCoPE, a SystemC modelling, simulation and performance analysis framework for MpSoCs. Different aspects of this research activity are being funded through ITEA, Medea, IST FP6 and IST FP7 projects. The Group participates to the Network of Excellence IST 004527 ARTIST2 in the Execution Platforms Cluster and is member of PROMETEO the Spanish Technological Platform in relation to ARTEMIS, the European Embedded Systems Technological Platform. The technical activity in PROMETEO is carried out in the Singular Project ATENEA.

The main contribution of the University of Cantabria to the COMPLEX project will be in the development of an executable specification in SystemC from the UML/MARTE specification and the extension of SCoPE towards system-level simulation and performance analysis, able to provide the required metrics to the system-level design-space exploration tool.

The Microelectronics engineering Group has a large experience in the participation to European, research projects in the ITEA programme with the projects SPICES and MARTES, the IST FP6 programme with project ANDRES, and the IST FP7 programme with the projects, MultiCube and Saturn.
